Remarkable Journey of a Newborn: Exploring the First 3 Months

Hello to all the New mothers. Finally, being promoted from Mom-To-Be to Mother, once again Congratulations. You did a great job in your journey of delivering a beautiful newborn in your arms after 9 months of a long period. For some of you, this period was healthy, cheerful, and enjoyable but on the other hand, for some, it must have been difficult to adjust to new mood swings, stomach issues, and several body changes. But now after welcoming the newborn into your world, everything starts fresh. Your life has a whole new meaning to it now with the new member.

I also take a moment to apologize for not frequently writing on this motherhood topic because of some personal circumstances. But, I promise I’ll be regular and will carry forward this series of motherhood and baby.

In my last blog, I talked about how you can take emotional support from your close ones, you can focus on your diet, and take care of your baby with the new life changes. I wish you all have recovered and managed to balance the new changes with the baby.

Now let’s discuss the baby’s growth in the coming blogs. Every mother is worried and excited at the same time about how her baby is going to behave in his milestones.

The first three months of a baby’s life are a time of incredible growth and development. From the moment they are born, babies are constantly learning about the world around them and mastering new skills. Let’s take a closer look at what a baby typically experiences during this transformative period.

Patterns of Newborn

Bonding and Attachment: In the first few months of life, babies begin to form strong bonds with their primary caregivers, usually their parents. This process, known as attachment, is crucial for the baby’s emotional and social development. Babies cannot see the time they are born. But gradually they start seeing the blurry vision and learn to recognize their parents’ faces and voices, and they seek comfort and security from them.

Sleeping and Eating: Newborn spend most of their time sleeping, typically around 16 to 17 hours a day. They have small stomachs and need to feed frequently, usually every 2-3 hours. Breastfeeding or bottle-feeding provides essential nourishment for their growing bodies. As they grow, babies may start to develop more regular sleep patterns, although sleep can still be quite erratic during the first few months.

Helping note: Try to make babies sleep during daytime in a room which have proper light. So that with time they would get to know the difference between day and night and would adjust the sleeping patterns accordingly.

Moms, please try to have your babies nearby during sleep so that they not only create a bond but are also safe from any kind of mishappenings.

Reflexes: Newborn babies are born with a set of primitive reflexes that help them survive and adapt to their new environment. These reflexes include the rooting reflex (turning their head toward anything that touches their cheek), the grasp reflex (curling their fingers around an object placed in their palm), and the Moro reflex (startling in response to a sudden loud noise or movement). These reflexes gradually diminish as the baby’s nervous system matures.

Motor Skills: While newborn may seem quite helpless, they are actually making rapid progress in developing their motor skills. In the first three months, babies start to gain more control over their movements. They may begin to lift their heads briefly while lying on their stomachs (known as “tummy time”), kick their legs, and wave their arms. These early movements lay the foundation for more complex motor skills later on.

Communication: Although newborn can’t yet speak, they communicate with their caregivers in other ways. They cry to signal hunger, discomfort, or fatigue, and they may make cooing or gurgling sounds when they are content. Babies also begin to make eye contact with their caregivers and may even mimic facial expressions, laying the groundwork for future social interactions.

Sensory Development: From the moment they are born, babies are taking in information about the world through their senses. They are particularly drawn to high-contrast patterns and bright colors, which captivate their attention. As their vision develops, babies become more adept at focusing on objects and tracking movement. They also explore the world through touch, taste, and smell, eagerly exploring new textures and sensations.

Growth: In just three short months, babies undergo remarkable physical growth. They typically double their birth weight by the age of 3-4 months and grow several inches in length. This rapid growth requires plenty of nourishment and rest to support their developing bodies and brains.

Soon your newborn will not be the same so cherish and make these moments memorable by doing some small photoshoots if possible. Try spending time with the newborn as much as possible not only mothers but fathers too. Also, fathers keep helping and supporting your wives as you always did. Mothers kindly do not hesitate to ask for help because you are not alone in this journey. Also, take proper sleep as well, do not use tech gadgets much, as your body is very weak and vulnerable.
The first three months of a baby’s life are a time of incredible transformation. From forming attachments with their caregivers to mastering basic motor skills, babies are constantly learning and growing. While each baby develops at their own pace, these early months lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and exploration. It’s a truly magical time in the journey of parenthood, filled with wonder, joy, and endless possibilities.
